The pharmaceutical company Medichem, a member of Catalonia.health, has been awarded the Second COASHIQ Sustainability Award for its "Waste, Water and Climate Change Management Programs" project, during the 122nd COASHIQ Technical Assembly and Conference, held on May 19 and 20 in Valencia.
The awards, organized annually by COASHIQ (Spanish Association for Safety, Hygiene and Medio Ambiente in the Chemical Industry), recognize the commitment and excellence of companies in areas such as occupational risk prevention, health protection, continuous improvement of industrial safety and the promotion of sustainable and responsible initiatives.
A structured approach to strengthen the environmental strategy
The jury highlighted the Medichem project for the coherent and structured approach with which it reinforces the company's environmental strategy, as well as for the development of specific programs focused on waste management, water and climate change.
Special emphasis has been placed on the initiative's integrated methodology, based on a previous diagnostic phase that identifies opportunities for improvement and establishes clear priorities. This approach allows for continued and sustained environmental progress over time, and helps to consolidate a solid foundation for generating long-term impact.
As a certified B Corp company, Medichem integrates sustainability into its business model, aligning environmental, social and governance commitments with operational performance and decision-making.
Montserrat Sala, head of Medi Ambient at Medichem, pointed out that the award reflects the collective effort behind the company's environmental strategy, and that the combination of a rigorous analysis with concrete action plans makes it possible to promote measurable improvements and strengthen the long-term impact.
Significant advances in occupational safety
In addition to the sustainability award, Medichem has received a diploma from COASHIQ for having achieved a reduction of more than 60% in the rate of occupational accidents in recent years.
This milestone highlights the company's focus on employee safety, prevention and well-being, supported by continuous training, solid procedures and collaboration between areas.
Abel Corredera, head of Health and Safety at Medichem, has indicated that the 60% reduction in the accident rate is the result of a sustained effort at all levels of the organization, and that it reflects a deeply rooted safety culture, where prevention, awareness and responsibility are part of daily activity.
Towards a more responsible industrial model
These recognitions consolidate Medichem's commitment to continuous improvement, responsible growth and the creation of safe and sustainable work environments and reinforce the company's position as an organization committed to making a positive contribution to both the sector and society.
