Catalonia.health participates in the third study visit of the European project RISEMED4EU in Helsinki

Comunicació,

Helsinki, June 2026 – Our Project Coordinator, Roser Alba, participated this week in the third study visit of the European project RISEMED4EU (Regional Innovation for Smart Ecosystems in Health and Medicine in the EU), held in Helsinki with representatives of the eight partner regions of the consortium: Limburg (Netherlands), Helsinki-Uusimaa (Finland), Saxony-Anhalt (Germany), Western Slovenia, North-East Romania, Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Bosnia and Herzegovina and Catalonia.

During two days of intensive work, the delegation explored first-hand the Finnish health and technology ecosystem, recognized throughout Europe for its capacity for digital innovation and the transformation of health services.

Day 1: Clever Health Network

The first day focused on the Clever Health Network model, with visits to Biomedicum 1 (Meilahti Medical Campus) and the GE HealthCare facilities in Helsinki.

At Biomedicum, the delegation met leading projects such as the development of home dialysis, spirometry assisted by artificial intelligence and neutron capture therapy with accelerated boron, among other initiatives that combine clinical research and technological innovation. The session was attended by staff from the Finnish emergency service, who shared their experience in the use of these digital tools in day-to-day care.

At GE HealthCare, project representatives were able to see a device capable of measuring air exhaled by intubated patients, a key tool for respiratory monitoring in critical care settings.

A digital health application comparable to La Meva Salut of the Catalan health system has also been presented, which allows Finnish citizens to access their clinical information and manage their relationship with the health system.

Day 2: Health Proof Helsinki

The second day took place at the Myllypuro campus of the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, where the delegation visited a unique clinical simulation space: a complete recreation of healthcare environments that includes a home, an ambulance and an operating theatre. This infrastructure allows health personnel in training to rehearse, in realistic conditions, the processes of transferring and caring for patients before facing real situations, from home care to surgical intervention.

The day continued with a session on regulatory solutions in the medtech field and a panel dedicated to regulatory compliance, with the participation of experts in regulation, artificial intelligence applied to health and quality issues of medical devices.

A network that connects European ecosystems

RISEMED4EU is an Interreg Europe project that brings together political authorities, government entities, industry leaders and high-level knowledge institutions with the aim of strengthening innovation in diagnostics and personalized medicine across Europe. Catalonia.health's participation in this network strengthens the positioning of the Catalan health and life sciences ecosystem in the international arena and facilitates the exchange of best practices between leading European regions in healthcare innovation.

Soon, we will share more details and conclusions from this visit, as well as the next steps of the project.
