Asabys Partners, a venture capital firm and Catalonia.health member specialising in healthcare and life sciences, is co-leading a €15 million seed funding round raised by iPremom, a molecular diagnostics company dedicated to the early prediction of pregnancy complications.
A round led by Amadeus Capital Partners with Asabys as co-lead
The round is led by Amadeus Capital Partners and co-led by Asabys, through its Sabadell Asabys II fund, with additional participation from APEX Ventures. The funds raised will support the clinical validation and commercial rollout of MaiRa, iPremom's platform that analyses early signals of first-trimester pregnancy complications through a simple blood test.
Technology built on over a decade of research
MaiRa is based on more than ten years of research by iPremom's co-founders, Professor Carlos Simón, Chairman of the company, and Dr Tamara Garrido, Chief Scientific Officer. Their work shows that the molecular signals linked to complications such as preeclampsia can be detected in maternal blood from the first trimester, well before clinical symptoms appear, through cell-free RNA (cfRNA) present in blood as early as 9 to 14 weeks of gestation. The platform has been developed using real-world data from more than 26,000 samples linked to 10,000 pregnancies from the PREMOM study, one of Spain's largest prospective clinical trials.
Next phase: validation and international expansion
Under the leadership of CEO Guillermo Ferrando Huertas, iPremom is now focused on advancing clinical validation and scaling access to MaiRa, currently available in Spain through the company's own laboratory. The funding will support the commercial launch, the completion of validation studies, and regulatory approvals in the European Union and the United States.
