The European Commission has announced the 74 innovative companies selected for the first round of the EIC Accelerator 2022. Among the selected companies there is Newborn Solutions, member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, with the project "The first Medical Device for non-invasive detection and monitoring of infant meningitis", a non-invasive technology for screening and monitoring of serous fluid infections.
The companies are expected to receive up to 382 million euros in funding, in a combination of grants and investments. The companies have been selected from over 1,000 start-ups and SMEs that submitted a full application for funding by 23 March 2022, of which 266 were interviewed by juries of experienced investors and entrepreneurs. The selected companies will receive grants and/or equity investments, depending on their needs, up to 17.5 million euros.
The EIC Accelerator offers grants for start-ups and SMEs of up to 2.5 million euros combined with equity investments through the EIC Fund ranging from 0.5 to 15 million euros. In addition to financial support, all projects benefit from a range of business acceleration services that provide access to expertise, entrepreneurs, investors, and leading ecosystem players.
Together with Newborn Solutions, two more companies based in Catalonia have been selected in this round: Geomechanics and Ignion.
