MiMARK Diagnostics, member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech , specialises in the development of innovative solutions for gynaecological diagnosticsThe Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHRI) spin-off has raised €1m to accelerate the development of its in vitro diagnostic test for endometrial cancer WomEC and initiate the development plan for its diagnostic test for endometriosisThe deal was led by venture capital funds Clave Capital, Nara Capital and Namarel Ventures, with the participation of business angel network WA4Steam.

"This investment marks the beginning of a new phase for our company, with new challenges, and enables us to achieve our goal: to improve gynaecology diagnostics and make it a more accessible and less invasive process for women", explains Marina Rigau, CEO and co-founder of MiMARK Diagnostics.

The company's mission is to transform diagnostics by using gynaecological fluids as a source of biomarkers"Gynaecological fluids enable a minimally invasive approach to the diagnosis of gynaecological diseases with unmet clinical needs, as they specifically reflect the adjacent tissues of gynaecological organs", explains Eva Colás, CSO of MiMARK.

The company's first product, WomEC, will benefit from this investment. It’s an in vitro diagnostic test for endometrial cancer based on the analysis of proteins in a soluble uterine aspirate sample. Endometrial cancer is the main gynaecological cancer in developed countries, with more than 6,700 new cases in Spain each year. Currently, diagnosis in many women requires a hysteroscopy-guided biopsy, an invasive procedure that could be avoided with WomEC.

"With the implementation of WomEC, we offer patients a less invasive, more accurate and faster diagnosis of endometrial cancer, which will improve the management of patients suspected of having this cancer", says Antonio Gil-Moreno, co-founder of MiMARK, head of the Biomedical Research in Gynaecology group at VHIR and head of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics service at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital.
