The fifth Health & Bio Team Dating event was held yesterday with great turnout: 87 speed-dating meetings, 16 projects from research groups in the healthcare and life sciences arena and 37 executives interested in contributing their expertise in business management and strategy. This year, the speed-dating event was held online.

BStartup of Banc Sabadell, Biocat and CataloniaBio & HealthTech created this initiative in 2015 after detecting that “the sector needed strong companies with solid teams, both in science and in business,” noted Biocat CEO Jordi Naval in his introduction to the event, which you can watch again here.

“The Health & Bio Team Dating format has proven to be effective at bringing together researchers and business experts to create new start-ups and projects in healthcare and the life sciences,” said Yolanda Pérez, director of BStartup of Banc Sabadell. 

Marta Palicio, CataloniaBio & HealthTech board member and Chief Innovation Officer at Biokit (Werfen Group), noted that “good ideas have to reach patients and healthcare professionals and institutions. This initiative is valuable and innovative, connecting talent, as we’ve seen with Miwendo.”

Miwendo gave the Inspirational Talk yesterday before the meetings started. Of all their experience in starting this spin-off of Pompeu Fabra University, Hospital Clinic and ICREA, co-founder and CTO Marta Guardiola said that “meeting Ignasi Belda, our current CEO, at the 2018 Health & Bio Team Dating was key for the partners’ agreement and transfer from the university.” Miwendo is working on a project to apply microwave technology to endoscopies to better identify malignant polyps, the precursor to colorectal cancer.

Over its history, the event has facilitated over 600 meetings among 300 professionals.
