Comunicació,

Barcelona, November 2025 – Catalonia.health hosted this November a working visit by the European consortium RISEMED4EU (Regional Innovation for Smart Ecosystems in Health and Medicine in the EU), an initiative bringing together eight regions from eight European countries with the aim of boosting innovation in health and personalised medicine through interregional collaboration and advanced technology.

The visit, which marked the launch of the event UnConference25 – Tailoring Medicine: towards 5Ps, enabled the European delegation to gain first-hand insight into the capabilities and the Catalan medtech ecosystem. During the working sessions, the Board of Directors and executive team of Catalonia.health, together with Antoni Plasencia, Director General for Research and Innovation at the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia, shared with consortium members the opportunities and incentives for health innovation in Catalonia and across Europe.

RISEMED4EU brings together policy-makers, government bodies, industry leaders and leading knowledge institutions from Limburg (Netherlands), Helsinki-Uusimaa (Finland), Saxony-Anhalt (Germany), Western Slovenia, North-East Romania, Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Bosnia and Herzegovina and Catalonia. The project addresses the critical need for innovation policies to achieve a more efficient, evidence-based healthcare system, fostering innovation through digital health applications, sensors and other advanced tools.

Catalonia.health, a key player in European health innovation

Catalonia.health’s participation in this European initiative reinforces its role as a recognised voice and reference point for the Catalan health sector at the international level. The organisation’s ability to provide a cross-cutting view of the ecosystem makes it possible to identify emerging trends and generate strategic intelligence that benefits the entire sector.

“Hosting this European delegation in Barcelona is an opportunity to showcase the strength of our health innovation ecosystem and to reinforce connections with European networks that allow us to learn, collaborate and grow together,” said Arantxa Sanz, Managing Director of Catalonia.health.

The RISEMED4EU visit aligns with Catalonia.health’s commitment to enhancing the international visibility of the Catalan health innovation hub, thereby strengthening its competitiveness and innovative capacity. Engagement with European projects of this scale facilitates access to new funding instruments, the exchange of best practices and the development of public-private partnerships that accelerate the transfer of knowledge and technology to the market.

During UnConference25, leaders from the healthcare, biotechnology and research sectors discussed how to make medicine more personalised, predictive, preventive, participatory and population-based, consolidating Catalonia as a space for dialogue and leadership in addressing the future challenges of the health sector.
