CataloniaBio & HealthTech’s board and team wish a very Happy 2022 to the more than 180 members, and collaborators and healthcare and life sciences professionals that make up the entity. Our greatest desire is that in 2022 we can continue to return to activities and in person meetings, as we have been doing in the last few months of 2021.
Now is a good time to look back and share the work that has been accomplished over the year and the principal milestones that we have reached. Still subject to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, we in the healthcare and biomedicine sector we have continued to be a key piece in addressing the crisis, but we have also found space to reflect and build the future of the sector based on the reality we are experiencing.
- 34 new companies and entities have become part of CataloniaBio & HealthTech. Now we are nearly 190 members.
- The members of CataloniaBio & HealthTech green lit the 2021-2023 Strategic Plan, which establishes a roadmap to reinforce the community, promote an added value industrial cluster, project companies into the society and grow as the sector’s business association.
- Dialogue with the Government and participation in the country’s strategic initiatives such as the ‘Reset’ document, promoted by the Catalunya 2022 task force; which was the Generalitat de Catalunya's proposal for the Next Generation EU funds, or the proposals on the bill for a start-ups law document, among others.
- For the first time, CataloniaBio & HealthTech have brought forward programmes to support companies and start-ups in the sector in accordance with the needs identified by the entity itself, its task forces, and in line with the applicable strategic plan:
- The BioMED Scale Up was the first support programme, with the goal of helping start-ups and companies in critical points of their growth to maximize that growth. A total of 43 companies took part in the first phase and 10 of those participated in the second phase of acceleration and personalised consulting.
- The other initiative came from the efforts of the new Sustainability Task Force, which was founded in 2021. The Shared Value programme was brought forward, along with the Mental Health of Catalonia and ACCIÓ cluster, to support companies in the sector making the transition to more sustainable and circular business models.
- This year we were unable to come together for the Nit de CataloniaBio & HealthTech evening or for the BBQ, but we did organise 12 activities to share knowledge and promote virtual and in person networking, in which about 600 professionals took part:
- We have made available to the members of CataloniaBio & HealthTech all of the information they need to prepare for the Next Generation EU funds, with training sessions and a collection of resources, thanks to our collaboration with KPMG.
- For the second year in a row, CataloniaBio & HealthTech has collaborated with Biocat and we have jointly drawn up and presented the BioRegió Report to provide an overall view of the entire sector. The new document will be presented on 26 January, mark the date!
- We awarded the sixth edition of the Bioèxit Award to ONA Therapeutics in recognition of its consolidation and international expansion as a scientific services company.
- And, for the first time, activities have been offered by companies in the sector to partitipate in the Science Week, and they have done so with the help of CataloniaBio & HealthTech.
