The CataloniaBio & HealthTech board and team wish you all a Happy New Year 2021, and especially to the more than 160 members of the association, its collaborators and healthcare and life sciences professionals. 

This is a good time to share the main milestones we’ve achieved and work we’ve done in this year marked by COVID-19, when our sector has been key in helping deal with the pandemic and advance towards an economy and society based on knowledge and innovation.

• Liaising with the Government and taking part in strategic initiatives for the country, such as the Government of Catalonia National Pact for the Knowledge Society (PNSC) and Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation in Health (PERIS) 2021-2027, the Catalonia 2020 Strategy, the joint call for a long-term science and innovation strategy for Spain, and various actions to attract European funds and provide solutions to stop COVID-19.
  
  
• We hosted 14 activities to share knowledge and promote networking virtually, with 49 speakers and 1,500 professionals:
  
  
  • CataloniaBio & HealthTech Gala; 
  • CEO Council sessions with Euronext, the European Investment Bank and the European Innovation Council; 
  • Health & Bio Team Dating with Biocat and BStartup; 
  • Lessons Learned forums on strategic decisions companies have made during COVID-19, artificial intelligence and the stock market; 
  • Hospital Connection sessions with Vall d’Hebron and Germans Trias;
  • Hard Reg Café sessions on the latest in regulatory affairs; 
  • and the digital health session at Tech Spirit Barcelona. 

We would also like to highlight the role the Innovation Workgroup and the Regulatory Affairs Workgroup have played in the organisation of these activities.

• For the first time, Biocat and CataloniaBio & HealthTech worked together to compile and present the BioRegion of Catalonia Life Sciences and Healthcare Outlook 2020 in order to give a global vision of the sector. In addition to featuring benchmark macroeconomic data, the latest edition of this report also identifies five big challenges the ecosystem is facing now through 2025 to boost its impact on the economy and its role as a driving force for innovation.
  
  
• CataloniaBio & HealthTech, Biocat and EY compiled and presented the fourth annual Study of investment in life sciences sector in Catalonia 2020, which provided an exhaustive analysis of the main trends in funding throughout 2019. This study and the BioRegion of Catalonia Life Sciences and Healthcare Outlook 2020 saw noteworthy media coverage.
  
  
• We collaborated on 22 sectorial projects in entrepreneurship, technology transfer and innovation, as well as international fairs and congresses, offering members a variety of benefits.
  
  
• We gave the fifth annual Biosuccess Award to Kymos in recognition of the science services company’s consolidation and international expansion.
  
  
• 21 new companies and organisations have joined CataloniaBio & HealthTech.
  
  
• With all this dynamic activity, the CataloniaBio & HealthTech communication channels have continued to grow. The cataloniabioht.org website hit a new record with over 43,500 visits in 2020 and our social media profiles (LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube), with a clear focus on B2B, now have a virtual community of 32,500 C-suite professionals, investors, researchers, etc.
