CataloniaBio & HealthTech takes part in defining ‘CIMTI Challenge 2020’ call for projects to transform the post-Covid healthcare model

Comunicació,

The Centre for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technologies in Catalonia (CIMTI), an instrument of the Catalan health system that is working to valorise high-impact health innovations and make sure they reach society, has opened the CIMTI Challenge 2020 call for projects to transform and improve the healthcare model after Covid-19.

To establish the topics for the CIMTI Challenge 2020 call, the centre hosted a co-creation workshop in June, with organisations from the social and healthcare sector. CataloniaBio & HealthTech was there, represented by board member Alfons Nonell-Canals, an expert in artificial intelligence applied to health and CEO of the start-up The Patients Resource.

The four topics chosen were: transformation of the care model, management and coordination of data in the health and social fields, patient/citizen empowerment, and new devices for medical use in case of a new outbreak/pandemic.

The deadline for proposals is 30 September. The centre will particularly value proposals that can be implemented in under a month. CIMTI will provide support to conceptualise the project, training, advice (technological, clinical, market and business, investment and communication) and a direct link to the CIMIT in Boston.

For Catalan Minister of Health Alba Vergés, “this new challenge is a clear example of innovation that will have an impact on our daily lives.”

Recently, CIMTI announced the eight projects selected through the 2019 call and compiled an observatory with innovative initiatives to tackle Covid-19, with collaboration from the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia (AQuAS).

CIMTI is promoted by the Leitat Foundation, with support from the Catalan Ministry of Health, AQuAS and the ”la Caixa” Foundation.
