Barcelona Science Park companies break record after raising €142M in 2022

The funding raised by the companies that form part of the PCB Community, in transactions identified in 2022, reached €142M, an absolute record, of which €85M (58%) came from private capital. The Barcelona Science Park (PCB) comprises more than 125 entities, including the CataloniaBio & HealthTech offices and a large number of members.

According to the PCB report, the data show a growth that multiplies by 4 the financing obtained in the operations identified in 2021, the year in which the companies located in the PCB were involved in operations worth €39 million. Just one year later, individual operations have been concluded that already exceed this cumulative figure for 2021.

Companies of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, the most important rounds

SpliceBio, the gene therapy biotech based on technology developed at Princeton University, a member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, tops the ranking of the Park in amount raised in rounds. SpliceBio raised €50M, the largest series A raised by a biotechnology company in Spain, which earned them the Bioèxit 2022 award.

The second round in amount was closed by DeepUll, also a CataloniaBio & HealthTech member. The company which specialises in the development of affordable culture-free diagnostic solutions for the early identification of sepsis and other acute infections, raised €13M in a Series B round to progress in the early detection platform for sepsis. In 2022 DeepUll also received a €20M loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Among the other companies that the PCB highlights in investments are other members such as Newborn Solucions, Pangaea Oncology, INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, Aptadel Therapeutics, Gate2Brain, OneChain Immunotherapeutics, MiMARK, Nuage Therapeutics. GENESIS Biomed also stands out for its contribution to the creation of companies and its support in financing, as well as successful cases and licensing agreements involving spin-off companies such as Syna Therapeutics.
