Almirall is celebrating its 80th anniversary, marking eight decades of commitment to patients, innovation, and healthcare advancement. To commemorate this milestone, the company hosted an institutional event at its R&D centre in Barcelona, Spain. The event brought together health authorities, partners and institutional representatives, including the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa, Juan Cruz Cigudosa, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Universities, together with other personalities and representatives, including members of the board of CATALONIA.HEALTH, of which they are members.

From its manufacturing plants in Sant Andreu de la Barca and Sant Celoni, as well as from the R&D centre in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, the company produces 75 million units of pharmaceutical products approved by various international regulators. In the last fourteen years, Almirall has led more than 100 clinical trials in medical dermatology, involving 22,000 patients from all over the world.

With a legacy of 80 years, Almirall has established itself as a leader in medical dermatology in Europe, with 2,000 employees, operations in more than 100 countries and a portfolio of 143 products. The continuous flow of product launches and outstanding commercial operations have built a broad and solid dermatological franchise. A focus that has been key to Almirall's growth, with the contribution of dermatological products to net sales increasing from 19.5% in 2013 to 52% in 2023.

Almirall launches The Hive

The Hive is designed to foster collaboration among researchers from biotech companies, start-ups, academia, and Almirall’s scientists, creating a unique innovation ecosystem that is aimed at advancing scientific breakthroughs and enhancing research success. The Hive builds on Almirall's open innovation centre, which began operations in 2023 with collaborations with two life science companies. The initiative was launched as part of Almirall's 80th anniversary celebrations. The new joiners at The Hive include ADmit Therapeutics and Microomics, both CATALONIA.HEALTH members, following the initial partnerships with ZeClinics, also CATALONIA.HEALTH members, and Centrient Pharmaceuticals.
