ENDRA and CDTI Innvierte lead the new investment bringing up to €7million the total funds raised by Amelia Virtual Care in the last year, together with current investors Sabadell Asabys, Caixa Capital Risc and CG Ventures. In 2019 Amelia closed a €6 million Series A led by Sabadell Asabys, a CataloniaBio & HealthTech member, and Caixa Capital Risc which allowed them to further develop its technology and consolidate its presence in Europe and the US.

The European Commission has announced the 74 innovative companies selected for the first round of the EIC Accelerator 2022. Among the selected companies there is Newborn Solutions, member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, with the project "The first Medical Device for non-invasive detection and monitoring of infant meningitis", a non-invasive technology for screening and monitoring of serous fluid infections.

A clinical trial shows that rinsing the mouth for one minute with mouthwashes containing 0.07% Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC) reduces the number of infectious viruses in saliva such as SARS-CoV-2. A study led by the Fight Infections Foundation together with the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute with the collaboration of DENTAID Research Center, a CataloniaBio & HealthTech member.

Just a few months after the close of the Shared Value programme, all the companies that completed it are now at various stages along the path to implementing sustainability in their business models and activity. A total of 10 companies completed the programme and the B Impact Assessment (BIA) self-assessment process. The programme is the first initiative launched by the CataloniaBio & HealthTech Sustainability Workgroup with the aim of improving companies’ competitiveness by equipping them with tools to consider their impact on society.

Wen Wen will be responsible for the legal matters relating to the management company, funds, and portfolio companies. Her knowledge and experience will be key in all stages of the investment process from the negotiation of letters of intent and shareholders’ agreements to all legal aspects of the divestment process. In her role as Head of Legal, she will also ensure the accomplishment of the anti-money laundering regulations and will manage the communication with regulatory entities.

Berlin-based company Cara Care has announced the closing of a $7 million financing round led by international food and nutrition producer Dr. Schär AG, which also involved existing investors Sabadell Asabys and Johnson & Johnson Innovation - JJDC, Inc, who led the Series A financing round. The investment lays the foundation for the international growth of Cara Care’s digital gastrointestinal therapeutics.

Dr Avencia Sánchez-Mejías, co-founder and CEO of Integra Therapeutics, won the first edition of the Women and Leadership Award promoted by Deusto Business School, Cinco Días and Banco Santander to boost and raise awareness of the talent of female executives at companies and in entrepreneurship. The ceremony was held on 2 June at the business school’s Madrid (Spain) headquarters.

Ysios Capital has announced the participation in the financing round of the US company Mineralys Therapeutics, for a total amount of $118 million. This is the tenth investment of Ysios Capital's third fund, Ysios BioFund III, and the first in the US. For this operation, Ysios has joined an international investment syndicate led by RA Capital Management and Andera Partners. The fund manager, a member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, expects to close two more new investments before the end of the year.

Sustainability is gaining momentum in business and is a factor that increases the value of the companies that strive to achieve it. CataloniaBio & HealthTech’s last Lessons Learned conference, on May 31, at ESADE Creapolis (Sant Cugat), put the focus on sharing experiences in establishing sustainable practices in companies in the sector. Specifically, on how to extend these practices to suppliers, which is one of the most important challenges they face.

The Centre for Comparative Medicine and Bioimage (CMCiB) of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute, a CataloniaBio &HealthTech member, has been awarded the certificate for complying with good laboratory practices (GLP) in line with the European Directive 2004/9/CE. The centre complies with the principles established by the Spanish Royal Decree822/19932 for carrying out preclinical studies with healthcare products (analytical tests, clinical chemistry - haematology and biochemistry - in studies administrating trial products, obtaining samples and biocompatibility of healthcare products). The areas certified are the surgical and bioimage areas, including the technology of vascular radiology interventions, ultrasound scan and magnetic resonance.

Mitelos started its journey in the market by the end of 2016 with the commercialisation of its first product. A little over 5 years later Mitelos has just reached sales of 2 million units of their ear health franchise comprising two solutions-based medical devices. To date, Mitelos ear care products are Otiblock® for the treatment and prevention of earwax impaction and Otidry-MD® for the prevention of acute otitis externa (“swimmer's ear”).

Selva will work together with the new board chaired by Joan Puig de Dou, CEO of Kymos, from February 2022, which has concluded this selection process already started by the previous board.

17 Catalan clusters have travelled to Boston this past week with the aim of exploring strategic opportunities within their sectors, fostering international networking and learning about how clusters work in advanced and innovative ecosystems. This trip is part of the Strategic Cluster Week, an initiative organized by ACCIÓ through the Catalonia Clusters programme, in collaboration with the Foreign Trade and Investment Office in New York.
