Trifermed awards for social impact in healthcare returns for its 7th edition in Barcelona

Trifermed, member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, announced the upcoming 7th edition of the trifermed awards for social impact in healthcare. Aiming to recognize individuals and organizations that are dedicated to improving the quality of health and making a positive impact on society. 

In the present edition, the trifermed awards will recognise some CataloniaBio & HealthTech members. This is the case of Antonio Parente who was born in Badalona (Barcelona) and has dedicated most of his career to the pharmaceutical field. He has founded and held leadership positions in multiple companies, including Lipotec, BCN Peptides, Diverdrugs, Lipofoods, BCN Corp, Primaderm, and Sepsia. In 2000, he founded GP Pharm, where he currently serves as President. In addition to these roles, Dr. Parente is a member of the Business Council of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG Barcelona) and has held positions such as Vicepresident of ASEBIO (Spanish Association of Biotech companies), Co-founder, President, and Vice-president of CataloniaBio & HealthTech where he was awarded the honorary bioèxit award in 2019.

Dr. Sara Marsal, co-founder of IMIDomics, a member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech who also received the bioèxit award in 2022, is a highly accomplished rheumatologist with a distinguished career in the field. In 2000, Dr. Marsal founded the Rheumatology Research Group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), focusing on immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMID). Her groundbreaking research using omics technologies has been published in renowned biomedical journals, identifying novel therapeutic targets and molecular profiles related to IMID diagnosis and treatment response. Dr. Marsal also directs the IMID-Biobank at VHIR, housing a substantial collection ofunique biological samples from IMID patients. In 2015, Marsal co-founded IMIDomics, a biotechnology spin-off from Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research specializing in innovative target identification and precision medicine for IMID.

Also awarded in this edition is i4KIDSPediatric Innovation Hub from Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital , a CataloniaBio & HealthTech member. A private, non-profit institution dedicated to providing comprehensive care for women, children, and adolescents. It established the Department of Innovation in 2009 to transform research and clinical excellence into new products, services, and processes that enhance patient experience, improve population health, and reduce healthcare costs. In line with this mission, the hospital created the i4KIDS Pediatric Innovation Hub in 2020, recognizing the need for medical solutions tailored to the maternal and child population. The hub shares the common objective of striving for all children, adolescents, and women to have access to the best diagnostics and treatments. i4KIDS has created acceleration programs for startups such as the WILD CARD together with the EIT Health.

In addition to the three members of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, this edition will also recognise the work of IrsiCaixa and the Fundació Lluita Contra les Infeccions, led by Dr. Bonaventura Clotet.
