The keys to talent search and recruitment for healthcare startups

Carla Archs,

What are the factors that require the most attention when searching for talent for startups in the healthcare sector? The first webinar of the year promoted by CataloniaBio & HealthTech has focused on understanding all details of this common challenge, with experts in talent acquisition in the sector.

The expert voice has been Ignacio Odriozola, founding partner and director of  Lim Global, who has shared his experience and key ideas about the search and recruitment of talent in the world of startups. Life sciences startups require diverse talent for their development, depending, for example, on whether they are biotechnological or medical device companies, the type of product, technology, or service they develop, their degree of maturity, etc.

Regarding this last point, about the different needs according to the maturity stage of the company, Odriozola's speech has been structured. Startups in seed funding stages, very early stages, should not seek the same personnel profile as a company that is already in a more advanced stage, with Series A rounds, for example. In this sense, he has given advice and offered strategies on sizing the needs and where to find talent (or where to go looking for it) for each situation. He has also emphasized the importance for entrepreneurs to understand the costs of innovation development in the healthcare sector, as well as the need to sell the investment to potential investors.

Emphasis has been placed on key aspects to consider, such as the importance of demonstrating added value to the market, the need to thoroughly understand the target market, and intelligence in managing financial resources to achieve business objectives. In addition, the importance of being supported by the solid experience of investors in the specific area of the startup's work has been highlighted, as well as the need for an experienced board of directors to add value to the company.

In summary, a session that has highlighted how talent management and financial resources are crucial for the success of a startup, especially in its early stages of development. The webinar's theme initiates a new line of work with a focus on talent in the healthcare sector, which CataloniaBio & HealthTech plans to promote in 2024.
