The IGTP and EATRIS organize a conference on translational research and innovation

Carla Archs,

At the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP)member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, the day "Translational research and innovation through EATRIS" was held. The purpose of this event was to discuss the progress and perspectives of EATRIS both in Spain and in Europe, and to highlight the research and innovation activity of the IGTP.

During the day, the prominent presence of EATRIS in the European (EATRIS-EU) and Spanish (EATRIS-ES) sphere was highlighted thanks to the different platforms that articulate it. The event was attended by the scientific directors of EATRIS and the IGTP, as well as people in charge of innovation and projects from various institutions. It helped the researchers of the Can Ruti Campus to learn about the opportunities offered by the scientific infrastructure.

The welcome was given by Jordi Barretina, IGTP director, who emphasized the relevance of the event for an institute with a clear focus on translational research. This year's day follows the line of the one held last year, establishing itself as an annual event in the institute's agenda.

EATRIS scientific program manager and coordinator of the ATMP-Vaccines platform, David Morrow, then spoke, urging people to take advantage of their services and recalling the mission of EATRIS: "users, services, institutes, but at the center of everything there are the patients."

The scientific director of EATRIS-ES, Laura García Bermejo, highlighted the progress being made in Spain. In the last year, the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) has multiplied tenfold its investment in EATRIS and today 32 of 35 institutes of the ISCIII are part of EATRIS. "A valuable contribution of the Spanish node of EATRIS is that it wants to count on patient participation."

The Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT) director, Lluís Blanch, moderated a round table with the heads of Innovation and Business Development of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) and the IGTP, Miguel Ángel Souto and Raül Zurita. All these institutes have been recognized as Expert Centers in Innovation by EATRIS and all three are members of CataloniaBio & HealthTech.

After a break, another panel discussion was held discussing the future of Transnational Access (TNA) services and how to get them to reach researchers, moderated by Julia García, scientific director of the IGTP. David Morrow intervened again, accompanied by project managers Patricia Carvajal, from ISIDORe and canSERV, and Sandra Fernández, from international projects of the IGTP, which include the two cancer and infectious disease consortia.
