Numerous studies highlight the effectiveness of gargling with CPC in reducing the infectivity of viruses such as the flu or SARS-CoV-2.

Recent research conducted by various universities and research centers in collaboration with the Dentaid Research Center (DRC)member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, highlights cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) as an effective antiviral. The coexistence of infections by the flu virus, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is straining primary care consultations and hospital emergencies in Spain. In response to this situation, preventive measures such as the mandatory use of masks in healthcare centers are being reinforced to curb contagion.

In this context, the potential of cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) as a key agent in reducing the infectivity of certain viruses has been emphasized, in addition to its effectiveness as a mouth antiseptic since it eliminates bacteria and other microorganisms.

In previous studies conducted by the Dentaid Research Center in collaboration with researchers from the University of Valencia, evidence of its effectiveness in combating viruses such as the flu or SARS-CoV-2 was found.

In recent days, the General Council of Dentists has recommended the population to prioritize protective measures in clinics, as well as annual flu vaccination and the application of the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, encouraging all dentists to actively promote these measures among their staff and patients. The adoption of these measures will contribute to individual protection, as well as collective safety, providing a safer environment in the dental field and preventing the spread of respiratory infections. Discoveries regarding CPC reaffirm the importance of including mouth gargling in the pre-dental treatment protocol as an effective safety measure.

Cristina Ballesteros, director of the medical department at Dentaid, states in line with expert recommendations: "The dental clinic is a healthcare center where the mouth is the main focus, and precisely this part of our body is the primary entry point for viruses and bacteria. Scientific evidence allows us to understand the effectiveness of mouth gargles with CPC so that both patients and professionals have more security and protection during dental procedures."
