Dr. Biola M. Javierre secures a prestigious funding project for the study of B-cell lymphoma

Carla Archs,

The European Hematology Association has awarded one of its renowned "Bilateral Collaborative Grants" to the collaborative project of Dr. Biola M. Javierre, from the Josep Carreras Institute, member of CataloniaBio & HealthTech, and Dr. Björn Chapuy, from Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany).

The project will generate new knowledge on the role of mutations in non-coding regions of the genome in the development of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

To be eligible for the "Bilateral Collaborative Grants", projects must meet very strict conditions, such as coming from two independent research groups based in Europe, with shared interests and complementary prior experiences. Thus, the collaboration is expected to enrich both groups and allow the generation of high-impact new knowledge.

The EHA is the largest association of hematologists in Europe, dedicated to promoting excellence in patient care, research and training. Its annual congress brings together thousands of specialists to discuss the latest developments in the field and is an ideal platform for establishing new collaborations among them.

The current research proposal emerges from these contact spaces. Thus, Dr. Javierre will add her experience in the liCHi-C promoter capture methodology, developed in her laboratory, to that of Dr. Björn Chapuy, who has a vast catalogue of DLBCL samples and preclinical models. The project will have the necessary funds to cover two years of high-level research and the recruitment of new researchers.
