CEOs of CataloniaBio & HealthTech meet to discuss economy and health

Comunicació,

More than thirty CEOs of CataloniaBio & HealthTech met at the HUB cambraDigital (Barcelona Chamber of Commerce) on 22 June for the last CEO Council before the summer break. The special guest at this edition was Núria Mas, currently a professor of economics at the IESE Business School.

In line with the other two CEO Council sessions held this 2023, with Antón Costas and with Boi Ruiz as guests, the conversation with Núria Mas focused on the various aspects of the economic and financial situation in which we are in, the evolution of policies in the health sector and the role that the sector has and must have in industry and the economy.

Mas presented a very participative session, in which he constantly questioned the attendees about the role that companies and institutions have and can have in the health sector, in the economic and financial context. With a local vision, but also Europeaninternational and, above all, very transversal. In this sense, the focus was very open, covering topics such as the financial situation, the debt, the employment situation, a comparison of international policies on business financing, market dependence, the entrepreneurial culture, the effects of regulation on industry and what is the portrait of the sectors on the rise at international level, among many other issues.

After this global and transversal vision, and based on this context, the debate focused on identifying the possible gaps that could be strengthened in the health system. It was a session with a high level of participation by the attendees, which highlighted the importance of having spaces for debate such as the CEO Council sessions, which allow topics of interest to be discussed, while helping to strengthen the relationships of this valuable group for the ecosystem.

Núria Mas is a professor in the Department of Economics at IESE and holder of the Jaime Grego Chair in Healthcare Management. She holds a PhD in economics from Harvard University and a degree in economics from Pompeu Fabra University. Núria Mas was until recently a member of the Governing Council of the Banc d'Espanya. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Guttmann Institute Foundation. She was a member of the Advisory Council for the Sustainability and Progress of the Health System of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The next CEO Council meeting will be held on 10 October, with Xavier Prats as guest speaker. Prats is President of the Board of Trustees of the Hospital Sant Pau and former Director General for Health and Education of the European Commission.
