Comunicació,

President of CataloniaBio & HealthTech and CEO of Specipig, Jaume Amat participated in this year's commission set up by the ACCIÓ Catalonia Clusters programme, on 11 July in Gavà (Barcelona), along with the rest of the presidents of the 30 accredited clusters.

The meeting was led by Catalan Minister of Enterprise and Knowledge Àngels Chacón, ACCIÓ CEO Joan Romero and ACCIÓ Head of Clusters Joan Martí.

According to data announced at the meeting, the number of companies and knowledge stakeholders that belong to Catalan clusters has quadrupled over the past 10 years to a total of 2,300 members (30% of the GDP). It also warrants saying that 76% of companies say that being part of these organisations makes them more competitive and 91% of them invest in R&D, “a much higher percentage than for the rest of Catalan companies,” noted Chacón.

CataloniaBioHT has more than 160 member companies and stakeholders in biomedicine and healthcare. In his time at the podium, Jaume Amat explained that “the Catalan biomedical sector is experiencing sustained, balanced, solid growth.”

Amat also noted the importance of the complementary assets of CataloniaBioHT members, which range from research centres that are a good source of innovation projects to a business fabric rich in start-ups that can develop and valorise new healthcare solutions, to consolidated companies that act as a driving force to take these products to market (hospitals and patients). In this latest era, Amat highlighted that “innovative public procurement is a very powerful tool that we must all make the most of.”

Catalonia is a pioneer in cluster policy. Currently, some of the most competitive countries in the world that also applied this strategy include South Korea, Singapore, Canada, Denmark, Norway and Germany.
